Escena Board of Directors Meeting

The Board of Directors met today in the Clubhouse.

The meeting was called to order at 5:04 this evening in private dining room in the Escena Restaurant. Fresh sweets such as cookies and brownies along with iced tea and water were served.

Some of the new home owners from the Alta Verde & Lennar projects were present. The few neighbors who showed up introduced themselves to the board and fellow neighbors.

LJ Edgcomb (On behalf of the master developer) and Kathy Weremiuk (She lives here in the community and also works for the city of Palm Springs and is very passionate about Escena).  Joining via phone was Bennett Borko.

The board handled some landscaping business.

The board discussed adding stop signs at the Herzog Way and will proceed with such action to help slow cars down on Clubhouse View.

Gene Shutner, committee member of the "Design Guideline Review Committee Report", updated the Board on the progress to date and the goal to have recommendations to the Board finalized by October of this year. He and his committee are working on simplifying the current rules in place. This is beneficial for Homeowners who in the near future would like to make changes to the homes they own for a smaller fee and faster processing than currently.

A new "Potty Station" with trashcan and potty bags will be installed at the new patch of park located between the new Alta Verde homes and Herzog Way. The board approved this at a cost of $400-$600.

Kathy Weremiuk board member suggested a Homeowner Orientation to new neighbors moving into the homes. Where this will lead is to be discovered...

"I think this is a great way to bring our beautiful community together, and be able to answer questions new homeowners have and to educate them on the importance of the HOA to maintain the community according to the rules." one neighbor said.

Installation of a keypad or exit only type lock for homeowners who are walking or riding bikes to the clubhouse for dining. Some homeowners have forgotten their community key and get stuck.  The board is looking into a solution to solve this problem.

The board is also hiring a patrol service to collect data of how many cars are on the streets and parked overnight. The CCR's state that homeowners should not park on the streets inside the community. The board was advised by Desert Resort Management that this service could at the discretion of the board start ticketing and even towing vehicles that are parked in the streets of Escena. Management does not recommend towing and did recommend monitoring the parking and mailing out additional copies of the parking rules to advise owners of what is required in the documents.

Finally the Dog Park will be getting a new facelift on its fencing. The lock at the entrance at the Dog park was also discussed. One neighbor said "Why do we need a lock on the dog park? It's not like my dog goes there without me." I agree.

Then the fun part of open forum and questions. Time is limited to 3 minutes per home owner. One homeowner was upset that she couldn't paint her house a color of her choice and was stuck with turquoise, a color she referred to as "Miami." She pleaded that color choice is subjective and that she should be able to paint her house. The board recognized this request and said to present a rendering or paint samples to suggest.

The next board meeting is September 18th and since a lot of our wonderful neighbors are not present due to the season. I am going to ask the board next time for permission to film and post the entire meeting for our neighbors who call Escena their second home. Perhaps we could have real time questions for the board right here on our website!
