
California Highway Patrol spokesman Officer Joe Zagorski says the closure happened just after 3:30 p.m. on the stretch that takes drivers through the wash area of the city -- a long stretch of sand that turns into a mountain-runoff waterway during rainstorms.
Zagorski urged drivers in high-profile vehicles to be cautious on the freeway. He said if you don't feel like you can handle the windy conditions behind-the-wheel, do not pull over the right shoulder. He said to take the next exit and wait until it's safer.
